HIA Approves New Building Lease

HIA Approves New Building Lease
Baggage system at HIA to become more energy efficient

(Middletown, PA – May 25, 2016)  The Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority (SARAA) board voted to approve an agreement in principle with Select Transport, Inc, which is part of Select Medical Corporation. Select Transport currently leases space at Harrisburg International Airport (HIA) and plans to expand their operation by leasing an additional 2.4 acres located near the west ramp (former terminal site). As part of the new lease agreement, Select Transport will demolish the existing building on the newly leased site and build a new corporate aviation hangar and fuel farm.

“Select Transport has been a long time tenant at HIA,” said Stephen Libhart, SARAA Board Chairman. “We are pleased they plan to expand their presence and operations at the airport”.

Baggage system at HIA to become more energy efficient

In the coming months, HIA will be modifying the Baggage Handling System (BHS) to make it more energy efficient. Following an energy audit that was conducted earlier this year, the SARAA board voted to approve a contract for $28,650 with iSystemsNowAirport to modify the BHS programming to allow portions of the system to shut down doing periods of low activity. The baggage handling system operates 16 hours a day, seven days a week, and is one of the largest energy use systems at the airport. The energy savings is estimated at 1034 kW-hours per day or $25,664 per year. Following the completion of the work, the project is eligible for a Met-Ed Act 129 Phase 2 Energy Rebate.

“Finding ways to operate more efficiently and save energy and money is important to us,” said Tim Edwards, SARAA Executive Director. “We want to be good stewards to both the environment and also our financial resources”.
