Emergency Drill Recap

On Saturday, 9/24 Harrisburg International Airport hosted its tri-annual full scale emergency drill. More than 70 volunteers participated in a simulated aircraft incident on the HIA cargo ramp as 12 fire departments and EMS departments from Dauphin, Cumberland, York and Lancaster Counties responding to the exercise. The American Red Cross, the Dauphin County Coroner’s office, and the PA ANG 193rd Special Operations Wing also played significant roles in the drill.

“On behalf of the airport authority, I’d like to thank all the volunteers, first responders and agency partners who made this drill a success,” said Frank Wirth, HIA Fire Chief. “These drill go a long way to help us prepare should an actual incident ever take place on airport property. Communications, cooperation and resource staging are always issues we work to improve.”
