Southern Airways Announces Harrisburg-Pittsburgh Service

(Middletown, PA – August 3, 2016)  There is now an Altogether Better way to get from the mid-state to Pittsburgh. Southern Airways Express announced yesterday at a press conference in Pittsburgh, new service connecting Harrisburg International Airport (MDT) to Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) for the first time since 2008.

Beginning in October, Southern will offer the new route with three non-stop flights each weekday and one flight each day on Saturdays and Sundays, between Pennsylvania’s Capital City and the Steel City. “Southern Airways is proud and honored, with our forthcoming Fall schedule, to serve more cities in Pennsylvania than any other airline,” said Stan Little, Chairman and CEO of Southern. “Pittsburgh to Harrisburg is destined to become one of our signature routes for the entire region.”

“We are thrilled that Southern Airways will provide nonstop service between Harrisburg and Pittsburgh this fall,” said Timothy J. Edwards, executive director, Harrisburg International Airport. “Having our two airports once again connected by air will be extremely beneficial to those traveling between our regions. We are thankful for the partnership and support of the Allegheny County Airport Authority, the Pittsburgh Business community, regional elected officials, and of course Southern Airways, for making this service a reality.”

“The addition of Harrisburg as a nonstop destination provides another option for travelers to get to our state capital. This new route is just one more example of the substantial progress being made at Pittsburgh International, and is reflective of our region’s continued growth and its demand for additional service,” said Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald.

“Harrisburg is a key nonstop destination and part of our strategy to connect Pittsburgh to regional markets both in-state and outside of Pennsylvania,” Pittsburgh International Airport CEO Christina Cassotis said. “We’re continuing to build our portfolio, and we’re pleased to have Southern Airways as a partner.”

Southern currently flies dozens of flights each day in the Mid-Atlantic Region between Pittsburgh and various communities in Pennsylvania, in addition to locations in Maryland and New York.

Tickets for this flight will be available for purchase at IFlySouthern.com beginning August 15, with an introductory one way fare of $99. Tickets may also be purchased through the call center at 1-800-329-0485.
