HIA awards over $10M in contracts
(Middletown, PA – July 27, 2016) The Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority (SARAA) board awarded $10,272,561 for improvements at three of the airports owned and operated by the authority.
“Continuing to improve our facilities to ensure day-to-day operations run smoothly is a key area of focus for the authority,” said Stephen Libhart, SARAA Board Chairman. “We are happy to work with local companies on these projects, keeping money in the community.”

The board also approved a ground lease and airport joint use agreement with the PA Air National Guard, which operates the 193rd Special Operations Wing at Harrisburg International Airport (HIA). The ground lease extends the existing lease by another 21 years to 2063 and allows the installation to plan for capital improvement projects in the future. The joint use agreement generates $161,313 in annual revenue for SARAA.
President Eisenhower Tractor on Display
Travelers and visitors to HIA can now view one of President Eisenhower’s historic tractors. Airport officials worked with the Eisenhower National Historic Site in Gettysburg to highlight the national parks to travelers coming into Central PA for the first time, and remind residents of what is in their back yard. Along with four donated ads which highlight the Gettysburg battlefield and the Eisenhower Farm, the tractor display also helps call attention to the National Park Service Centennial, which is being celebrated during 2016. The tractor will be on display on the first floor of the terminal, near baggage claim, for several months.
Passenger Traffic up in June
June was a busy month at HIA with American Airlines having its busiest month in two and a half years and Air Canada having its busiest month in over a decade. A total of 111,429 passengers used HIA in June, a nine percent increase over June of last year.
“We are pleased to see the increase in traffic,” said Timothy Edwards, Executive Director of SARAA. “We continue to pace on track with our projections for the year and thank everyone who chooses the Altogether Better experience HIA provides.”
The next SARAA Board meeting will take place on Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at 8:00 am, in the David C. McIntosh Boardroom, located on the third floor of the HIA terminal building.
