HIA To Host Welcome China Initiative Program Discussion

China Welcome Initiative

Harrisburg International Airport will be hosting a new “China Welcome” Initiative on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm at The Vineyard and Brewery at Hershey. Harrisburg International Airport, Boyd Group International and China Ni Hao will host a discussion on new initiatives the airport, and how our region can take to collectively welcome more Chinese visitors to our region.

Since 2009, travel from China into and out of our region via Harrisburg International Airport has more than doubled.

Today, most Chinese visitors tour the Interior U.S. by motor coach direct from nonstop U.S. gateways like New York and Washington DC. However, recent trends show an increased number of Chinese travelers are connecting to airports in secondary markets like Harrisburg, if they are ready! Chinese visitors have specific travel expectations, and tend to go to destinations that meet these convenience and cultural expectations. Airports and communities that become “China Welcome” will be at the top of the list for Chinese tour operators, as well as individual travelers. While many in our region are becoming “China Welcome” now, we’d like present a way the airport can play a more vital role in this process.
